Greetings - Brothers, Sisters and Veterans
My name is Thom Lee; last November I was elected Chairman by the TWU Veterans Committee. The committee consists of TWU members who are military veterans within the Air Transport Division. Paul Mazzara was elected as Vice-Chair and Jenny Timms, as the committee’s Recording Secretary.
Some of you may recall that several years ago the ATD had me visit our locals to assist in starting Local Veterans Committees. However, due to the after effects of 9/11, and the subsequent invasion of Iraq, we had to curtail that mission and refocus our efforts. As a result of that terrible day a new strength and vision was born in relation to our distinguished military forces. Many veterans from long ago have made sure this generation of veterans receives the honor and recognition they deserve. But more important, that they be afforded the assistance so many desperately need. Returning home is not always easy.
I want members to know our motto is - “Veterans Helping Veterans”. Our goals and objectives are to assist TWU’s military veterans with necessary needs relating to Military Leave of Absence (MLOA,) and understanding their contractual benefits as written in their respective collective bargaining agreements. Additionally, we hope to have solid communications between local committees, sharing information that informs our veterans of important past and present legislative issues affecting them and their family. Additional opportunities to help will be determined by the Veterans Committee as they present themselves.
Today, the ATD-VC is beginning anew and needs your locals support. Please encourage members to help, ask your local President and officers if you can assist them. Let’s not let those who need us down; our success is dependent on your involvement. We are here to support you and you’re local. This is your ATD -Veterans Committee, please help by volunteering and spreading the word for others.
