February 17, 2010

Meeting called to order by Chairman Thom Lee at 08:00 with the Pledge and opening remarks.

Any items that need to be placed on the ATDVC website, need to be given to Craig Gillett. Walter Reed hospital on March 23, 2010: Will be passing out items collected throughout the TWU.

Don Videtich took on the action item of getting this trip paid as UBP.

Portia Reddick-White called in from DC to speak about what she does as the head of Legislative Affairs and current relevant bills on the table including:               

VA disability pay raises               

VA pension pay raises

Alex Garcia and Terry Daniels spoke to the committee explaining what they do from the COPE and lobbying aspect for the TWU. They work more on a state level.

 

Don Videtich took on an action item that all people on the veterans committee should contact your local unions about legislation that affects our Veterans members. Old Business

· Where are we?

Rules and responsibilities for the ATDVC Officers

· Networking, conventions, target specific things and build from there. Presentations, tackle

specific things later for smaller events. Support philanthropy; endorse specific events, meetings

with the company. We reviewed the by-laws regarding officer roles. Events to be attended;

needs to be a business plan. Local committees need to be run by the local, not the ATD.

· We have a basic description in our by-laws.

Jim Little addressed the committee.

· Discussed introducing the committee into the constitution at the convention this year.

Hopefully, some of the presidents will put more into it in the future.

Old Business

Reviewed ATDVC Logo and T-shirt status

USO Visit by Thom and Jose

· The “reading room” at DFW. A room where soldiers leaving read their child a story and they put

it on CD for the children to listen to while they are gone. They need books so we need to have a

new book drive. What we can do: Need books, travel size shaving cream, shampoo, conditioner,

or any type of toiletries, beef jerky, chocolate, gift cards from various fast food eateries within

the terminal, travel size pillows, neck rests, magazines, dvd’s, cd’s. Thom Lee will generate a

letter to the locals requesting the previous items. Locals will have a drive for certain items on

the list. The list will be divided up.

Town Hall Meetings

· Do we want help at the local level? Some locals are requesting town hall meetings; 561, 512.

How we incorporate people into our networks? What type of agenda are we looking at?

Off-line meeting with a few individuals to make a top five check list for AA. Will be ready

Meeting called to order by Chairman Thom Lee at 0810 and opened with the Pledge and opening

remarks.

· We need to get more local involvement; network and grow.

Thom Lee will send a letter to each of the Presidents that didn’t have a representative present.

Welcome new member Andre Lafahregue from Local 576.

Old Business

Getting involved within your local resource groups; we want to be careful about what we “partner” to

with the company.

The web site is a work in progress. We reviewed some of the links on the site and made corrections.

Homework:

· Find out who your VA service representative is. Email Paul the name and number of your

representative. Make sure it’s someone you can work with and is truly there to help and

educate your members.

· Shop around and use some of your resources at other organizations; doesn’t necessarily have to

be a VA representative.

You have to be consistent and patient with claims. They take a lot of work and time, but it will pay off if

you work at it.

New Business

We need volunteers with sub-committees. Get involved and step up to the plate.

Next meeting date: August 20 – 21, 2009 in Chicago, IL.
